Microsoft denies update problem

REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 1 (UPI) -- U.S. software giant Microsoft denied computer failures had resulted from November security patches, calling the reports "inaccurate."

"Microsoft has investigated reports that its November security updates made changes to permissions in the registry that are resulting in system issues for some customers," Ars Technica quoted a Microsoft spokesperson as saying.

Some consumers had reported of failures resulting in the so-called "Black Screen of Death," in which computers freeze while displaying a black screen, Ars Technica, a computer technology Web site in Chicago owned by Conde Nast Publications, reported Tuesday.

'"The company has found those reports to be inaccurate … none of the recently released updates are related to the behavior described in the reports," the spokesperson said.

Cnet reported Christopher Budd, the company's security response spokesman, said Microsoft's support organization was "not seeing this as an issue."
