SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- U.S. auction giant eBay said it had fixed a problem that caused item searches to fail Saturday.

"We are happy to report that critical search functionality was restored overnight on Saturday, and we are seeing normal activity levels today," eBay Marketplace Operations President Lorrie Norrington said in a statement released Sunday.

The company offered sellers a variety of compensation options to make up for the problem in which searches for items ended up with either blank page or a message that said, "we were unable to run the search results ... please try again in a few minutes," CNN reported Monday.
