DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A U.S. judge ordered a former Ford Motor Co. product engineer to remain in jail while awaiting trial on charges of industrial espionage.

U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen reversed Thursday's ruling by Magistrate Judge Mark Randon, who said Mike Yu could be free on bond after his arrest Oct. 14 at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.

Yu was arrested with a laptop computer that contained Ford documents worth between $24 million and $32 million, the government estimated.

Yu's attorney George Donnini said Yu, of Beijing has been a U.S. resident for 22 years and would be under supervision of a local pastor if freed before his trial. But prosecutors argued he had no family or property in the United States and was a flight risk.

Yu faces five felony counts and possible prison sentence of 78 months, the newspaper said.
