SACRAMENTO, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- The city of Sacramento has halted construction of a water bottling plant pending a debate on new requirements for similar facilities.
Food giant Nestle, which began construction at the plant a month ago, said 80 people would be out of work while the project is halted.
Brendan O'Rourke, a supply chain director for Nestle, which is building the plant, said "to change the process midstream is very concerning for us and for any business that would come here."
The city council was expected to vote Tuesday on a stricter environment ordinance that could then be applied to the Nestle project, The Sacramento Bee reported Tuesday.
"With a pending ordinance, the issue of allowing work to more forward came into question. This was a prudent measure," David Kwong, the city's acting director of the Community Development Department, said.
