SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- An air show featuring 100 skydivers in San Francisco Wednesday was staged as a promotion for the introduction of a new smart phone, organizers said.
Some of the skydivers made a "T" formation as they descended to help T-Mobile advertise its new myTouch 3G, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. At least one of the performers was dressed as Elvis Presley.
T-Mobile said the 3G is an upgrade to the G1, the first smart phone to run on Google's Android operating system. Android is in competition with the Apple iPhone, the Chronicle noted.
The participants in the mass jump are affiliated with Skydiving Innovations of San Diego. The air show also featured skywriting and flybys.
A city official told the Chronicle T-Mobile paid the city $17,500 and the event was approved by several city agencies. Officials said residents were notified ahead of time about the event.
