ATLANTA, July 28 (UPI) -- U.S. carrier Delta Airlines said Tuesday it would revamp its frequent flier program to entice new business travelers and maintain its loyal passengers.

Changes the airline will introduce in the Medallion Qualification Miles program over the next nine months include adding a Diamond Medallion status for passengers who log in 125,000 qualified miles or fly 140 "segments" in a calendar year. Diamond level customers will be rewarded with Delta Sky Club membership, have baggage fees waived and earn 125 percent as a mileage bonus on purchases, Delta said in a statement.

Passengers in lower status brackets can rollover miles from one year to the next with no limit to the extra miles, the airline said.

The top three tiers -- Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members -- will have booking fees waived, as well.

"We are committed to a best-in-class SkyMiles program that gives our most loyal customers the benefits they deserve," Delta's vice president of loyalty programs Jeff Robertson said.
