LAKE PARK, Ga., July 11 (UPI) -- The Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association says Herring Produce of Lake Park, Ga., is voluntarily recalling a recent lot of whole Anaheim peppers.
The association said in a release Wednesday that peppers bearing the production lot number 0801206 may be contaminated with salmonella. No illnesses have been reported relating to the Anaheim peppers.
The peppers were shipped Massachusetts, New York and Ohio June 9-19. The exact number of peppers involved in the recall was not reported.
A positive salmonella sample was found in the production lot by the New York state Department of Agriculture, which had been testing the goods for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not tied the positive sample to any salmonella outbreaks and Herring Produce is working with FDA officials to warn the public of the potential health hazard.
