NEW YORK, June 26 (UPI) -- A federal bankruptcy judge in New York said General Motors Corp. could access $33.3 billion in government funds in a day of speedy court rulings.

Judge Robert Gerber took about 15 minutes to approve GM's motion to access the funds, The New York Times reported Friday.

In spite of objections filed in the case, Gerber later scheduled a hearing for June 30 that could result in GM's stronger assets being transferred to new ownership.

Attorneys general of eight states have filed an objection protesting a bankruptcy plan that would make 30 million older GM vehicles immune from product liability lawsuits. Several Michigan municipalities have filed objections in their districts.

The Detroit News reported Friday that a GM had chosen to keep a plant open in Orion Township, Mich., over factories in Tennessee and Wisconsin.

GM spokesman Tom Pyden said an announcement on the decision would be made public as early as Friday.
