Crane Plumbing whirlpool tubs recalled

Published: June 26, 2009 at 4:31 PM

WASHINGTON, June 26 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Crane Plumbing whirlpool bath tubs due to entrapment and drowning hazards.

The drain covers in the tub can entangle a bather's hair and cause the bather's head to be pulled underwater, the commission said in a statement.

About 5,500 of the tubs were sold by Crane Plumbing LLC of Dallas, Texas, between March 2007 and February 2009 for between $700 and $2,700.

The tubs include a Crane logo printed on the whirlpool or noted on the air control valve.

Consumers are advised to stop using the tubs and contact Crane to identify their unit.

Consumers with recalled tubs can either arrange for free repair conducted by a service agent or conduct the repair with instructions and parts provided by the company.

Consumers can call 866-876-3632 for information.
