Campbell Hausfeld air compressors recalled

Published: June 19, 2009 at 3:19 PM

WASHINGTON, June 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Campbell Hausfeld air compressors due to a fire hazard.

About 16,000 of the air compressors were imported from China by Campbell Hausfeld of Harrison, Ohio, and sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores from January 2008 through June 2009 for about $250.

The recall involves model number HU200099AV air compressors with 20-gallon tanks.

The mechanism that shuts off the compressor in the event of overheating, the thermal overload, can fail, presenting a risk of fire, the commission said in a statement.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled air compressors and return them to Wal-Mart for a full refund.

Consumers can call 800-241-0448 for information.
