W.P. Appliances toaster ovens recalled

WASHINGTON, June 12 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of W.P. Appliances Inc. combination toaster and counter top ovens due a fire hazard.

The toaster can remain on after the toast pops up, creating a possible fire hazard, the commission said in a statement.

About 1,500 of the combination appliances imported by Frontgate of West Chester, Ohio, were sold nationwide from November 2008 through March 2009 for about $100.

The recalled toasters have model No. WPTOT010 and date codes 3608 or 3908 on Underwriters Laboratory labels. They are black and silver and have "Wolfgang Puck" stamped on the lower right hand corner of each unit.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled toasters and contact W.P. Appliances for instructions on returning the units for a free replacement.

Consumers can call 800-275-8273 for information.
