CINCINNATI, May 13 (UPI) -- The company behind Bounty paper towels alleges in a federal lawsuit the Atlanta manufacturer of Brawny paper towels infringed on a copyright.
Proctor & Gamble Co. of Cincinnati said in a May 5 lawsuit filed in a Southern District of Ohio federal court that a new Brawny design from Georgia-Pacific LLC is too similar in appearance to a previous Bounty product, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Wednesday.
Proctor & Gamble's suit seeks unspecified damages from the company's paper towel rival and demands Georgia-Pacific cease all use of the design at the center of the litigation.
"We will rigorously defend our intellectual property rights, which in this case involves infringements to our Bounty trademark and trade dress," Proctor & Gamble spokeswoman Lisa Jester said in an e-mail.
"We disagree, with the allegations in the complaint," Georgia-Pacific spokesman James Malone told the Atlanta-Constitution of the ongoing legal clash. "We believe the claims are entirely meritless, and we plan to defend the lawsuit vigorously."
