Grains close mixed Tuesday

CHICAGO, May 5 (UPI) -- Grains ended the day mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Tuesday as a recovery in the dollar pressured prices and a rally in stock markets turned flat.

Corn was off 1/2 to up 1/2, soybeans were off 7 1/2 to up 3/4, wheat was up 2 1/2 to up 3 and oats were up 2 3/4 to up 3 1/4.

Corn prices were mixed with planting far behind the historic average in Illinois and Indiana. Wheat prices rose with dry weather continuing in Argentina. Soybeans crop progress is also slow compared to historic averages but high prices have slowed buying, traders said.

The prices:

Corn: May 3.98 1/2, up 1/2; Jul 4.05 1/4, off 1/4; Sep 4.14 1/4, off 1/4; Dec 4.25, up 1/2.

Soybeans: May 11.16, up 3/4; Jul 11.01, off 2 1/2; Aug 10.61 1/2, up 6 1/2; Sep 10.07, off 7 1/2.

Wheat: May 5.41 1/2, up 3; Jul 5.53 1/2, up 2 1/2; Sep 5.80 1/4, up 2 3/4; Dec 6.02 3/4, up 2 3/4.

Oats: May 1.99 1/4, up 3 1/4; Jul 2.04 1/4, up 3 1/4; Sep 2.12 3/4, up 2 3/4; Dec 2.25 3/4, up 2 3/4.
