CUPERTINO, Calif., May 5 (UPI) -- U.S. technology giant Apple Inc. may be considering a $700 million buyout offer for Internet networking Web site Twitter, a variety of bloggers claim.
Bloggers have been wrong before, but they have also been right. Blog site Gawker.com said an unnamed source reported Apple is in "serious negotiations" with Twitter, ComputerWorld reported Tuesday.
"The blogoshpere is abuzz," with the rumor Apple is attempting to buy the company, which turned down an offer from Facebook Inc. last fall, ComputerWorld said.
Rumors of Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. pursuing Twitter also surfaced recently.
TechCrunch reported a "normally reliable source" confirmed Apple was pursuing Twitter, ComputerWorld said.
In early March, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said his company was "just getting started" and was "planning on building a strong, independent Twitter Inc."
