Grain prices fall Monday

CHICAGO, April 27 (UPI) -- Grains closed lower on the Chicago Board of Trade Monday with fears of a swine flu pandemic and reductions in international trade undermining commodities.

Corn was off 4 3/4 to off 5 1/4, soybeans were off 31 1/2 to off 37, wheat was up 25 1/2 to up 26 and oats were off 6 1/4.

Corn prices fell as planting began to catch up with historic averages. The U.S. Department of Agriculture in a weekly report said 15 percent of the nation's spring wheat planting is done with 2 percent emerged. Soybean planting has just begun, the USDA said.

Corn: May 3.72 1/4, off 4 3/4; Jul 3.80 3/4, off 5; Sep 3.90, off 5 1/4; Dec 4.01 1/2, off 5 1/4.

Soybeans: May 10.04 3/4, off 35 1/2; Jul 9.97, off 37; Aug 9.75 3/4, off 34 3/4; Sep 9.38 3/4, off 31 1/2.

Wheat: May 5.08, off 24 1/4; Jul 5.19 1/2, off 23 3/4; Sep 5.46 1/2, off 24; Dec 5.68 1/2, off 24 3/4.

Oats: May 1.87, off 6 1/4; Jul 1.96, off 6 1/4; Sep 2.05, off 6 1/4; Dec 2.19, off 6 1/4.
