Grains mixed Wednesday

CHICAGO, April 8 (UPI) -- Grains closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Wednesday after stocks pushed ahead with modest gains on Wall Street.

Corn was up 1/4 to up 3/4, soybeans were up 10 to up 16 1/2, wheat was off 6 1/2 to off 8 and oats were off 2 to off 2 1/4.

Wet weather began to abate in the Midwest corn belt Wednesday, but freezing temperatures in southern Kansas and northwest Oklahoma was estimated to cause 25-40 million bushels of winter wheat to be lost. Soybeans rallied as China announced it would purchase 110,000 metric tons from U.S. sources.

The prices:

Corn: May 3.97, up 3/4; Jul 4.06 3/4, up 1/4; Sep 4.16 1/4, up 1/4; Dec 4.27 3/4, up 1/4.

Soybeans: May 10.06, up 16 1/2; Jul 10.01 1/2, up 13 1/2; Aug 9.77, up 12; Sep 9.41, up 10.

Wheat: May 5.32, off 7 3/4; Jul 5.43 3/4, off 8; Sep 5.70 1/2, off 7; Dec 5.70 1/2, off 6 1/2.

Oats: May 1.97, off 2; Jul 2.06, off 2 1/4; Sep 2.15, off 2; Dec 2.30, off 2.
