Grains mixed Monday

CHICAGO, March 9 (UPI) -- Grains closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Monday, while crude oil prices rose sharply in New York.

Corn was up 4 to up 4 3/4, soybeans were off 2 to up 2, wheat was up 6 1/4 to up 7 and oats were up 1 1/2 to up 1 3/4.

Corn closed higher with light trading and improved export figures from the previous week. Wheat rose with only the eastern Plains receiving needed rain Monday. Soybeans lost ground as Brazil reported a yield estimate 400,000 metric tons higher than an estimate from last month.

The prices:

Corn: Mar 3.57 1/4, up 4 1/2; May 3.65 1/2, up 4; Jul 3.75 1/4, up 4 1/4; Sep 3.84, up 4 3/4.

Soybeans: Mar 8.81, up 2; May 8.65, off 2; Jul 8.63, off 3; Aug 8.51, off 2.

Wheat: Mar 5.13, off 3 1/4; May 5.23 1/4, off 3 3/4; Jul 5.35 1/4, off 3 1/2; Sep 5.59 3/4, off 3 1/4.

Oats: Mar 1.75 3/4, up 1 3/4; May 1.84 1/4, up 1 1/2; Jul 1.93 1/4, up 1 1/2; Sep 2.02 1/4, up 1 1/2.
