Crude oil prices jump Tuesday

NEW YORK, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices rose sharply Tuesday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, despite signs demand is falling and inventories are rising.

Crude oil prices rose $6.92 per barrel to $41.32 per barrel. Heating oil prices dropped 0.037 cents to $1.391 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline fell 0.002 cents to $1.014 per gallon. Natural gas prices rose 0.021 cents to $4.728 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $1.843 Tuesday, up slightly from Monday's $1.842 a gallon, AAA said.
