Grains mostly higher Monday in Chicago

CHICAGO, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Grains closed mostly higher on the Chicago Board of Trade Monday as corn prices stayed low, while wheat, soybeans and oats made gains.

Corn was off 1 to off 1 1/2, soybeans were up 9 1/4 to up 13 3/4, wheat was up 6 1/4 to up 7 and oats were up 4.

Corn closed lower as the week's exports of 23.36 million bushels were below U.S. Department of Agriculture expectations. Wheat prices rallied as Jordan announced a tender for 100,000 metric tons. Soybean export inspections dropped to 28.7 million bushels, down form the previous week's total of 33 million, the U.S.D.A. report said.

The prices:

Corn: Mar 4.11 1/4, off 1; May 4.21 1/2, off 1 1/4; Jul 4.31 1/2, off 1 1/2; Sep 4.41 1/2, off 1 1/2.

Soybeans: Jan 9.83 3/4, up 13 3/4; Mar 9.87, up 10; May 9.98 1/4, up 9 3/4; Jul 10.09 1/4, up 9 1/4.

Wheat: Mar 6.16 3/4, up 5 3/4; May 6.29 1/2, up 5 3/4; Jul 6.41, up 6 1/2; Sep 6.60 3/4, up 6 1/4.

Oats: Mar 2.16, up 4; May 2.25 1/4, up 4; Jul 2.34 3/4, up 4; Sep 2.44 1/4, up 4.
