CHICAGO, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Grains closed mostly higher on the Chicago Board of Trade Tuesday as traders said selling and end-of-the-year news were both light.
Corn was up 2 1/2 to up 2 3/4, soybeans were up 7 1/4 to up 7 3/4, wheat was up 12 1/2 to up 13 and oats were off 7.
Corn prices gained with dry weather still plaguing Argentina's corn acreage. Wheat prices rose as traders said year-end balancing in index funds -- adjusting investments in commodities -- would favor Chicago wheat. Soybean crops in Brazil and Argentina are thirsty, with some farmers waiting for a promise of rain to resume planting.
The prices:
Corn: Mar 3.96 1/4, up 2 3/4; May 4.06 1/2, up 2 1/2; Jul 4.17, up 2 3/4; Sep 4.27, up 2 3/4.
Soybeans: Jan 9.45 3/4, up 7 1/4; Mar 9.53, up 7 1/2; May 9.64 3/4, up 7 1/2; Jul 9.76 1/4, up 7 3/4.
Wheat: Mar 6.04 3/4, up 12 3/4; May 6.17 1/2, up 13; Jul 6.28 3/4, up 13; Sep 6.48 1/2, up 12 1/2.
Oats: Mar 2.10, off 7; May 2.19, off 7; Jul 2.28 1/2, off 7; Sep 2.38, off 7.
