IRVING, Texas, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- The mayor of Irving, Texas, used the Internet medium YouTube to plead his case for an economic stimulus plan to President-elect Barack Obama.
Mayor Herbert Gears used the short-film YouTube Web site to ask the next president to use federal funds to buy municipal bonds, The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.
"That would bolster the market," Gears said in his presentation.
Gears said the collapse of the credit market has made it difficult for cities to raise funds for a variety of projects.
"There's just no market," he said.
In his presentation, Gears pitched a slew of projects associated with the new DART rail line that will run from Dallas to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
Gear also attributed the YouTube strategy to Obama, who has posted YouTube videos from time to time.
"He's introduced this vehicle to be able to reach us, so it just makes sense that we would make use of the same vehicle to reach him," Gears said
