WASHINGTON, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Two prominent newspapers in Baltimore and Washington said they have agreed to share editorial content and photos to trim costs.
The agreement between The Washington Post and Baltimore Sun covers mostly Maryland news stories, the Post reported Wednesday.
Some stories won't be shared. Exclusive stories and news articles about Maryland's state government and University of Maryland sports will not be part of the agreement, the Post said.
In a statement, the Post's Executive Editor Marcus Brauchli said, "We have great respect for The Baltimore Sun's reporting and believe adding their expertise to our regional coverage will be very beneficial to our readers."
The newspapers agreed to coordinate coverage of Maryland stories, "so if a story broke on Eastern Shore or in Western Maryland, then we'd talk with the Sun and figure out who was in a better position to send a reporter," said Robert McCartney, assistant managing editor of the Post's Metro news.
Sun Editor Timothy Franklin said adding Post stories to the Sun "will help make our paper even more relevant."
Without explanation, however, the Post said Franklin resigned Tuesday.
