DETROIT, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Golf superstar Tiger Woods and U.S. automaker General Motors Corp. say they have mutually agreed to end their endorsement deal on Dec. 31.
The cost-cutting move by GM will give Woods more personal time to spend with his family, The Detroit News reported Monday. Woods and his wife are expecting their second child.
"I am very proud of the long standing partnership I've had with GM and have enjoyed being a part of the company's dramatic product evolution," said Woods in a statement.
Woods has been the auto company's most visible celebrity endorser for nine years as the star of Buick commercials in the United States, Canada and China.
"Tiger has been a great friend to GM and a fantastic asset through the years helping to bring consumer awareness to many new GM products," said Mark LaNeve, GM's North American vice president of sales. "This decision is the result of discussions that started earlier in the year."
