WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Spending on private and public construction in the United States fell in September, the U.S. Commerce Department said Monday.
Construction fell to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.06 trillion, a drop of 0.3 percent from the revised August estimate of $1.063 trillion, the report said.
Private construction, at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $751.7 billion, rose 0.1 percent above the revised August figure of $751.1 billion, the report said.
Residential private construction fell 1.3 percent in the month with seasonally adjusted annual spending at $335.5 billion.
Non-residential private spending on construction projects rose 1.2 percent on the month to an adjusted annual rate of $415.2 billion.
Public construction fell 1.3 percent to $308.4 billion.
Educational construction fell 0.3 percent to $86.5 billion, while highway construction outlays fell to $79.9 billion, down 1.5 percent, the government said.
