NEW YORK, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices climbed higher on the New York Mercantile Exchange, gaining $1.44 to $66.19 per barrel.

Prices of other energy commodities also rose as U.S. markets posted a mixed day, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 74 points after posting a gain of nearly nearly 900 points Tuesday.

Tuesday's strong day of trading put new vigor in energy commodities, where prices have fallen for months due to eroding demand.

Heating oil prices also rose $0.089 cents to $2.001 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline rose 0.0385 cents to $1.533 per gallon. Natural gas prices rose 0.394 cents to $6.778 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.589 Wednesday, down from Tuesday's $2.629 a gallon, AAA said.
