NEW YORK, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- PC makers say they're introducing a new generation of machines that can start up in 30 seconds or less.
"It's ridiculous to ask people to wait a couple of minutes. People want instant-on," said Sergei Krupenin, spokesman for DeviceVM, a company that makes a quick-start program for PC makers.
Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Lenovo are among PC makers who see a marketing opportunity in a society grown weary of waiting for as long as three minutes for their computer to warm up, The New York Times reported Sunday.
Asus, the world's largest maker of PC circuit boards, now builds quick-start software into its entire product line, while Microsoft -- whose Windows program often is blamed for sluggish starts -- has pledged to create an operating system that boots in less than 15 seconds, the Times reported.
