WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Playkids U.S.A. convertible cribs due to entrapment and suffocation hazards.

The commission said a 5-month old child in Brooklyn, N.Y. died of suffocation in August when he became trapped between the mattress and the stationary side of the crib.

The recall involves Playkids U.S.A. convertible crib/playpen/bassinet/beds with model number PLK-909, the commission said.

The model number is on the packing material for the cribs, which have a drop side rail, a stationary side rail, a canopy assembly and a bassinet. About 2,000 were sold in New York between March 2007 and September 2008 for about $100 each.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled cribs and contact Playkids U.S.A. of Brooklyn, N. Y. for a full refund.

Consumers can call 718-797-0302 for information.
