Effikal gas-vent dampers recalled

WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Effikal gas-vent dampers due to a carbon monoxide hazard.

The Automatic Gas Vent Dampers could fail, the commission said. In turn, if the damper's blocked vent switch fails to activate, consumers are at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, it said.

About 45,000 of the dampers, made by Effikal LLC of Orion, Mich., were sold through plumbing and heating wholesale distributors from August 2007 through July 2008 for on 14 models of broilers worth between $1,000 and $4,000.

The recall involves Effikal RVGP-PC Gas Vent Dampers in sizes 4 through 10.

Consumers were advised to stop using the broilers, weather permitting, and contact a certified installer to confirm if they have a recalled damper and arrange for a free replacement.

Consumers can call 866-790-3739 for information.
