WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Coby Electronics rechargeable batteries due to a fire hazard.

The batteries sold with portable DVD/DD/MP3 players can overheat, posing a fire hazard, the commission said.

About 13,000 of the batteries, imported by Coby Electronics Corp. of Success, N.Y., were sold with TF-DVD 1020 portable DVD/DD/MP3 players from May 2007 through July 2007. The TF-DVD 1020 units sold for about $168.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled batteries and switch to using the unit's AC or DC power adapters. Consumers can contact Coby Electronics for a free replacement battery.

Consumers can call 866-945-2629 for information.
