About 30,000 of the hammock stands were sold by Pottery Barn of San Francisco, Calif. from March 2003 through July 2008 for about $300 each, the commission said.
If used outdoors, the strength of the wood can deteriorate, creating risk of breakage and injury, the commission said.
The recalled hammock stands are about 154 inches long and 53 inches high.
Consumers were advised to remove the top side brackets from the stands and contact Pottery Barn to schedule a free pick up of the brackets and merchandise credit for the stands.
