WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of BRP U.S. youth all terrain vehicles due to a collision hazard.

The vehicles' automatic turn-off switches can fail in the event a rider is ejected, leading to a possible collision with bystanders, the commission said in a statement.

About 1,200 of the vehicles were sold between August 2007 and September 2008 for about $3,400 each. The vehicles were made in Vietnam and imported by BRP U.S. Inc., of Surtevant, Wis.

The recall involves model year 2008-2009 Can-Am DS 90 X ATVs.

Consumers were advised to stop the ATVs and contact any Can-Am dealer for a free repair.

Consumers can call 888-638-5397 for information.
