WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of General Electric toasters due to a shock and fire hazard.

Importer Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville, Ark., has received 140 reports of short circuits in the toasters causing sparks or fires, the commission said in a statement.

The General Electric toasters have a chrome steel body and a black plastic base. About 210,000 of the toasters were sold nationwide between September 2007 and July 2008 for between $17 and $28.

The recall involves 4-slice model number 169115 and 2-slice model 169116.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled toasters and return them to Wal-Mart for a replacement or a refund.

Consumers can call 800-925-6278 for information.
