FLINT, Mich., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- General Motors Corp. said Thursday it would construct a $370 million production plant in Flint, Mich., to build engines for the Chevrolet Volt.
Construction on the 552,000-square-foot plant was expected to begin immediately with completion expected in 2010, The Detroit News reported.
"We are confident that Flint is exactly the right place to build our all-new power train plant," GM Chairmen and Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner said in statement.
The engines are part of GM's push toward alternative fuel vehicles. The Volt can run 40 miles on its lithium-ion battery, after which a 1.4 liter gas engine takes over, propelling the car and recharging the battery, the News reported.
