Crude oil prices gain modestly Wednesday

NEW YORK, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices rose $2.28 Tuesday to Wednesday, after the U.S. government said crude oil stocks had declined.

Oil inventory fell by 1.5 million barrels in the week ending Sept. 19, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said Wednesday.

Crude oil prices rose modestly compared to recent sessions. On Monday, crude oil jumped more than $16 per barrel, a record leap for a 24-hour cycle.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange Wednesday, oil settled at $105.48 per barrel. Heating oil prices gained 0.0027 cents to $2.999 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline rose 0.0081 cents to $2.6031 per gallon. Natural gas prices fell 0.236 cents to $7.695 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline fell to $3.715 Wednesday from Tuesday's $3.726 a gallon, AAA said.
