WASHINGTON, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of bicycles with Deda Forza handlebar stems due to a crash hazard.
Deda Elementi S.r.l. of Italy has received four reports of handlebar stems cracking, causing the rider to lose control, CPSC said in a statement.
The recall involves bicycles with Deda Forza black carbon fiber handlebar stems, which have a gloss finish and the words "Deda Forza" printed on the side.
Stems with a matte finish are not part of the recall, CPSC said.
About 400 of the handlebars stems were sold on bicycles ranging from $4,300 to $8,700 between January 2008 and June 2008.
Consumers were advised to stop using the bicycles with the recalled handlebar stems and return them to the place of purchase for a free replacement.
Consumers can call 866-514-5522 for information.
