WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Protocol remote-controlled toy helicopters due to fire and burn hazards.
The rechargeable battery in the mini-helicopters can overheat and melt the helicopter's body, posing a burn and fire threat, CPSC said.
About 78,000 of the Chinese made helicopters, imported by Ashley Collections Inc., doing business as Protocol of New York, N.Y., were sold from October 2007 through December 2007 for between $30 and $50, CPSC said in a statement.
The recall involves model number 1442. The helicopters are made of foam and plastic and measure about 7 inches long.
Consumers were advised to take the toy helicopters away from children and contact the company for a replacement.
Consumers can call 800-261-1193 for information.
