IMS spotlight car chargers recalled

WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of IMS car chargers used with halogen lamps due to fire and burn hazards.

The car charger is "incompatible" with the battery used to power the 3 million candlepower spotlights, which can cause overheating, CPSC said in a statement.

About 210,000 of the hand-held spotlights, charged through a car cigarette lighter with an adapter, were sold between October 2007 and June 2008 for about $20 each. The spotlights, made in China and imported by International Merchandising Service Inc. of Fullerton, Calif., were sold at Sears and K-Mart, CPSC said.

The spotlights are black and blue. Each side has a sticker that says, "3 Million Candle Power."

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled car charger and contact IMS for a free replacement.

Consumers can call 866-797-2738 for information.
