WASHINGTON, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Molex wire splices, also known as butt splice connectors, due to a shock hazard.
About 53,000 of the splices, made by Molex of Lisle, Ill., were sold between June 2005 and April 2008 for $1-$5 in packages of eight or 50.
The splices, distributed by Garden Bender, can fail to hold the wires together, posing a shock and fire hazard, CPSC said.
The splices are frequently used for small electrical appliances. They are yellow, vinyl splices about 1 inch long and 1/4 inch wide. The number 12-10 is stamped on their sides.
Consumers were advised to stop using the products using the splices and contact Garden Bender for free replacements.
