Grains rise as oil prices climb Thursday

CHICAGO, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Galloping oil prices and a weaker dollar lifted grain prices on the Chicago Board of Trade Thursday.

Corn was up 22 1/2 to up 23, soybeans were up 47 1/4 to up 48 1/2, wheat was up 21 1/2 to up 22 3/4 and oats were up 8 1/2.

Corn moved along with oil, up $5.50 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Wheat gained with the U.S. Department of Agriculture reporting exports at 52.2 percent of expectations, compared with a 5-year average of 37 percent for this time of year. Soybeans gained with rain relief expected by Midwest farmers in a dry August.

The prices:

Corn: Sep 5.97 3/4, up 22 1/2; Dec 6.17 1/2, up 22 1/2, Mar 6.37, up 23; May 6.48 1/2, up 22 1/2.

Soybeans: Sep 13.41, up 47 1/4; Nov 13.48, up 48; Jan 13.65 1/4, up 48, Mar 13.79, up 48 1/2.

Wheat: Sep 8.97 1/4, up 22 1/2; Dec 9.22 1/4, up 22 3/4; Mar 9.46 3/4, up 22 1/2; May 9.61 1/4, up 21 1/2.

Oats: Sep 3.76 1/2, up 8 1/2; Dec 3.96, up 8 1/2; Mar 4.14 1/4, up 8 1/2; May 4.25, up 8 1/2.
