Atico personal blenders recalled

WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Atico International personal blenders because of a laceration hazard.

The company has received 14 reports of incidents involving the Signature Gourmet and Crofton blenders that included lacerations, including 11 that required medical treatment, the CPSC said.

About 124,000 of the blenders, imported from China by Atico International USA Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla, were sold between July 2006 and March 2008. Walgreen sold the Signature Gourmet brand for about $16, while Aldi stores sold the Crofton brand for about $13.

CPSC said the blender can inadvertently turn on, creating a laceration hazard.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled blenders immediately and return them to the appropriate retailer for a full refund.

Consumers can also call Atico International USA at 877-546-4835 for information.
