iPhone supply easing as Best Buy signs on

CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Supply worries over the fast-selling iPhone are easing somewhat in the United States, industry analysts said.

"Supply is coming on board," Charles Wolf of Needham & Co., told USA Today.

Wolf said the Apple may have sold 3 million iPhones since it was reintroduced July 11. But, the company said it has sold 1 million units, the newspaper reported.

Long lines at Apple and AT&T stores have attested to the phone's popularity with stocked stores often selling out within a day.

Retailer Best Buy, with 600 outlets that include Apple Macintosh sections, has landed the first coveted contract -- outside of Apple and AT&T outlets -- to sell the new iPhone, the newspaper reported. The contract gives Best Buy an exclusive through Christmas.

"We think we'll have a good supply for our customers," Shawn Score, president of Best Buy's mobile division, told USA Today.
