Baby Appleseed cribs recalled

WASHINGTON, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Baby Appleseed cribs because of a fall hazard.

About 500 of the Davenport Cribs imported from Vietnam by Baby Appleseed of City of Industry, Calif., were sold nationwide between December 2006 and September 2007 for between $600 and $800, CPSC said.

The space between the cribs' lower mattress supports and the top rail do not meet federal standards, making it possible for children to climb over the top rail and fall, CPSC said in a statement.

The recall includes Davenport crib models that begin with model numbers 273-xxxx-xxxx, and include manufacture dates on or before August 2007.

CPSC advised consumers to stop using the recalled cribs in the third lowest position and contact Baby Appleseed for a free repair kit.

Consumers can also call Baby Appleseed at 877-348-2199 for information.
