McDonald's is cheering China's athletes

BEIJING, July 24 (UPI) -- McDonald's Corp., is blitzing the host country of the 2008 Olympic Games with ads in support of Chinese athletes, the company said.

Although a U.S. business icon, upbeat ads on Chinese television show Chinese athletes enjoying McDonald's food and includes the slogan, "I'm lovin' it when China wins," Crain's Business Journal reported Thursday.

The "Cheer for China" campaign included a visit to China by mascot Ronald McDonald, who danced with five winners of a talent search for "unique individuals to cheer for Chinese athletes," the company said in a statement.

McDonald's said the ads were customized to China because McDonald's China, which includes 900 franchises in the country, is "a very local company."

The company also pointed out it ran a similar campaign in support of U.S. athletes when the summer games were held in Atlanta in 1996, Crain's reported.
