PRINCETON, N.J., July 15 (UPI) -- A majority of U.S. adults in a Gallup poll pointed to gasoline first and food second when assessing the negative impact of recent price hikes, researchers said.
Gallup pollsters said that nearly all respondents -- 97 percent -- in a July 10-13 survey indicated gasoline prices had gone up "a lot" since the January. When asked to whether gas or food price hikes had the most negative impact, respondents indicated gas price hikes by a 5-to-1 margin, Gallup said.
"Americans see the world as 'gas first,' with all other costs falling significantly behind," the Gallup report said.
In the poll, a majority of the 1,016 respondents indicated prices had gone up at least "a little" in every category except electronics and services "such as haircuts, landscaping and dry cleaning," Gallup said
The sampling includes a margin of error of 3 percentage points, Gallup said.
