U.S. online job offers unchanged in June

NEW YORK, June 30 (UPI) -- Online postings of U.S. job openings held steady in June compared with May, but declined 11.2 percent from a year ago, the Conference Board said Monday.

Year-to-year monthly figures have dropped four months in a row, the private research group said.

In June, U.S. employers posted 2.5 job vacancies online for every 100 persons in the labor force, down from a high of 2.9 in May 2007, the report said.

"Employment declines are likely to continue through the summer," said Conference Board senior economist Gad Levanon.

"Spring is typically a time of seasonal increases in labor demand, but not this year," Levanon said.

June's online advertising included 2.752 million new jobs, while the rest of the 3.8 million postings were repeats from May, the report said.

All nine regions of the country tracked by the Conference Board saw declines in the number of online ads with openings trending downward in 38 states of the 52 states.

Alaska, Colorado and Nevada had the highest number of jobs posted per person in the work force with 4.93, 4.18 and 4.05 job listings per 100 workers in those state respectively.

Maryland had 3.95 job postings per hundred workers, Delaware 3.84 and Vermont 3.73.
