FORT WORTH, Texas, June 27 (UPI) -- American Airlines announced employment and flight reductions as it follows the flight path toward downsizing taken by other U.S. airlines.
American said it would reduce managerial and support staff by eight percent, informing employees Thursday their jobs would be cut in September, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported.
Flights would be scaled back by 12 percent, the airline said.
Executives at American have warned of potentially thousands of job cuts, the report said.
"We're still working to determine our staffing needs based on the new schedule," airline spokesman Tim Wagner said.
