U.S. mortgage rates up slightly last week

WASHINGTON, June 26 (UPI) -- Interest rates for 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages increased modestly in the United States in the last week, the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. said Thursday.

The average 30-year, fixed interest rate averaged 6.45 percent with an average 0.6 point for the week ending June 26, compared with 6.42 percent for the previous week, Freddie Mac said.

A year ago, 30-year fixed rate mortgages averaged 6.67 percent.

At 6.04 percent with an average 0.6 point, the 15-year fixed rate mortgage also gained slightly, the report said. The previous week's average for a 15-year, fixed-rate mortgage was 6.02 percent.
