COCOA, Fla., June 26 (UPI) -- A 60-year-old teacher in Florida accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student encouraged the boy to lie about it, police said Thursday.
Adrienne Laflamme of Palm Bay, Fla. -- a science teacher at the Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center -- was arrested Wednesday. A judge Thursday set her bail at $525,500, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Laflamme, who has been with the Brevard County School District for 22 years, faces 15 counts of unlawful sex with minors and filing a false police report. She is on paid leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation, school spokesman Wesley Sumner said.
Palm Bay police said Laflamme started the alleged relationship with the teen last month, days after his release from the youth detention center.
The relationship allegedly continued for about a month and included 15 instances of sex, including one in which a 14-year-old boy joined them, a police report said.
In a phone conversation monitored by police, Laflamme told her former student she had been suspended from work and was planning to deny the allegations against her to avoid losing her job and retirement benefits, the newspaper said.
