ATLANTA, June 20 (UPI) -- Federal officials said Friday that 285 recent cases of salmonella poisoning in Texas originated in tomato farms in Mexico and Florida.
The outbreak was traced to raw red plum, red Roma and round red tomatoes, officials said, ABC News reported Friday.
Officials have dispatched investigators to visit both states, the news report said.
The Centers for Disease Control have identified 552 cases of salmonella in 32 states since April 10 with more than 50 cases requiring hospitalization, ABC reported.
