WASHINGTON, June 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of "Hip Charm" key chains due to risk of lead exposure.

About 39,000 of the key chains, made in China and distributed by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville, Ark., have been sold, the CPSC said in a statement.

A 9-month old child observed with the key chain in his mouth was found to have high blood levels of lead, the CPSC said.

The key chains, sold between April 2005 and June 2008, cost between 50 cents and $6. They are made with several charms, including a button, a clover leaf and a heart, hanging from a silver-colored chain.

Consumers were advised to take the key chains from children and return them to a Wal-Mart store for a full refund.

Consumers can also call Wal-Mart at 800-925-6278 for more information.
